Infrared Sauna Candidates
If you want to gain the health benefits of a sauna session but find traditional saunas uncomfortable and too intense, an infrared sauna may be a better option for you. While anyone can gain from undergoing regular infrared sauna sessions, the best candidates are:
- Individuals dealing with stress and tension
- Athletes and fitness enthusiasts
- Those with chronic muscle and joint pain
- Anyone trying to lose weight
There are instances where infrared sauna sessions are not recommended. Pregnant women, children, those with serious heart conditions, an open wound or a compromised immune system are not good candidates for treatment.
The Infrared Sauna Treatment
An infrared sauna session does not involve much preparation and downtime. Still, you want to come to your session well-prepared and understand what to expect during and after for the best outcomes.
Preparation
We recommend drinking plenty of water right before your session. You will be sweating a lot, so hydration is key to avoid dehydration, overheating and an uncomfortable experience. Also, avoid drinking alcohol and caffeine and eating spicy foods, as these things can increase dehydration and leave you feeling ill during your session.
Wear comfortable and loose-fitting clothing or a bathing suit if that is what you prefer. You may wish to bring some form of entertainment to pass the time.
Treatment
During an infrared sauna session, you will enter the sauna, where you will sit or lay comfortably for the next 30 to 60 minutes. As the infrared panels generate heat, you will gradually start to feel hot. It may take up to 20 minutes for you to start sweating. Many clients also notice immediate relaxation and pain relief during a session.
Aftercare
Immediately after your session, wait to cool down and allow your body to adjust to room temperature. We also offer a cold plunge to help you cool down if you wish. Drinking water or another hydrating fluid is important immediately after a sauna session to prevent dehydration.
